In 2002, CHC referred a local filmmaker, Danny Alpert, to Irving Harris,
who was interested in funding a documentary about the Chicago Doula
Project. The outcome of that initial contact is A Doula Story, a film
that focuses on CHC-trained doula Loretha Weisinger and her work as
a community-based doula on the West Side of Chicago.

| This is a documentary that follows one
woman and the teen mothers she supports, but it also reflects the
story of dozens of women around the country who work with underserved
families as part of community-based doula programs. The film will
be released nationally to PBS in October 2005 (screening in Chicago
on October 6). Be sure to look for your local listing, or make a request
to your local PBS channel. |
