Since 1986, CHC has made an organizational commitment to developing
and supporting community-based leadership to promote maternal and
child health. We advocate for collaborative, inclusive approaches
to addressing the health issues of women and children, and have been
involved in local and national efforts to support community health
worker programs.

| We work with community organizations and
government agencies to develop sustainable funding for programs which
address families' health needs. Advocacy material is integrated into
our training curriculum, and we provide advocacy training to our partner
sites. In an environment of tight budgets and cost-cutting, tapping
into the strengths and capacities that exist within communities can
provide valuable resources. Mother-to-mother support, peer education,
and breastfeeding are hidden community treasures. CHC works at the
local, state, and federal level to raise this awareness. |
